My Students

I teach at a Title I school where I have 75 energetic students who want to enjoy their limited time outdoors to the best of their ability. This year Arizona is requiring two recess periods for grades K-5, my students get to benefit from this decision, but now they need resources to get the most out of their time outdoors.

The state wants to give students more time outdoors, now my students just need the equipment!

Jump ropes, frisbees, four-square balls, and ankle skip jump ropes would make such a huge impact our group of 5th graders. It would boost their moral, help to build classroom bonding, and invite exercise into their day that they might not otherwise get.

Right now our 75 fifth graders have a football, a soccer ball, and a four square ball. This leaves many students to just walk around without really being active at all. With a variety of equipment available to the kiddos, they will burn energy, stay fit, and most importantly, have FUN!

My Project

Recess time is one of the best times of the day. Kids can show their true personalities, friendships can develop, skills can be learned, and kids can learn the meaning of sportsmanship. But without equipment, recess is just a 20 minute break from the classroom and when boredom kicks in, trouble can ensue.

Giving the gift of playground equipment can help kids stay fit, build new skills, and help students to grow as a community.

When kids have equipment to keep them active they are happier and it may improve brain function. Recess offers the chance for students to build character, work on socialization, learn to take turns, and it helps children to work on conflict-resolution skills. Without equipment, students are just left to wander around and problems may arise. Recess with the right playground equipment such as volleyballs, jump ropes, soccer balls, etc. can help make recess what is it supposed to be, FUN!
