Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My East Harlem Students work hard, even if they struggle. They are kind to each other and understand that there are some in the classroom with special needs. More than 90% of my students are living in poverty, and yet they will still donate spare change to any fundraisers that help the sick or the needy.
My students deserve the best education possible, which is hard to get with the way our school budget has been so severely cut.
I want for them to know that I believe in them and in all of their potential and will find a way to get the supplies that they need even when the budget won't allow for it. They deserve to have a classroom that feels comfortable, safe, and like a home. We are like a family in my classroom. My students know that I take care of them.
My Project
Not all of my student learn the same way. Some benefit from technology as a means to learn. Not only will my students be more tech savvy, but it will also improve my students' desire to learn about history and do research.
Adding technology to Social Studies brings the rest of the world, be it in the past, present, and future, to the classroom.
My students can take virtual class trips on the IPad. They can also go to websites such as as PBSkids.org and Brainpop.com to watch videos and play games to help them understand historical concepts.
Often in Social Studies, learning about a subject causes curiosity. The students' brains make connections and they want to learn more. The IPad will allow them to ask questions that their teachers may not be able to answer. The power of learning will be in their hands.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
