This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help me build my social-emotional learning toolkit. I work with students on identifying their feelings, coping skills, social skills, and more. We will practice identifying feelings and emotions and lessening symptoms of anxiety. Many of my students have disabilities, are bilingual, and have experienced trauma.
These tools will help my students manage their emotions so they can become successful students.
The Little Spot books and plush emotions will help the students identify and name their emotions. The calming kit will give students the option of different ways to de-escalate when they are upset. The calm ball, coping cards, CBT therapy card game, and self-calming cards will help students learn various coping skills in English and Spanish. Meditation cards will help students with anxiety access the benefits of meditation in an age-appropriate way. The posters for my office will provide visual reinforcement of what students learn during our time together. The I Spy bingo game and Wikki stix are for the executive functioning and sensory needs of my students. The textbooks will provide me with specific self-regulation and/or therapeutic activities to do with students. Students who are calm and able to regulate their emotions can focus and learn in the classroom. Thank you for your consideration!
