This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school in East New York. My students are special needs students with disabilities such as speech and language, Emotional Disturbance, ADHD, Learning Disabled and Autism. Most of them are from Hispanic and/or African American backgrounds. They come from single-family homes, non-English speaking parents and have a low social economic status. All of these factors are known to affect education drastically. Despite all the hardships my students may face when out of the classroom, they still come to school with a smile on their face, ready to learn, every single day.
My Project
Returning to school in the middle of a pandemic must be scary for a seven year old. Wearing a mask and not being able to play in groups will be hard for them. I want to make social distancing in the classroom fun by having cool and different seating options for my special needs students.
Help us social distance in the classroom with cool seating options since we can't sit with our friends anymore!
The students will benefit from individual floor chairs in bright, appealing colors while social distancing safely in the class. Having a comfy lounge chair will also provide my students with comfort in such an uncertain time.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
