My elementary school is a small school in rural southern Virginia. It is a Title I school and has a diverse group students. The students are lively, caring, happy and curious.
The students each bring something unique to our classroom.
Some students are really good at math, and some are amazing at reading. While others students excel in science and social studies. Each student is an important part of our classroom environment and each student is needed to make our classroom a special place to be.
I would like my students to get the same benefits as students in a larger school. My students deserve the same chances to succeed!
My Project
Each day we try to come together on our classroom carpet to listen to read alouds, watch videos on our SmartBoard, practice flashcards, discuss classroom events, and just be together. Currently, the carpet in my classroom is old, falling apart, and too small for everyone to get to sit together. Right now it is very hard to have everyone come together and personal space often becomes an issues with everyone trying to cram together.
My students need a new carpet that we can all fit on!
Having room for everyone to sit together will help improve our classroom environment. When our class gets a chance to sit together true "magic" happens. Students get to share ideas, discuss classroom events and most importantly learn how to be part of our classroom community by each having their own personal square. This carpet will allow for our classroom to become even more of a social learning place.
I can already imagine the classroom conversations that we will have sitting on this carpet!
