My Students

My 2nd grade scholars are living in situations that some adults can't even begin to imagine living in. They attend school year round, meaning we start in July and end in June. Even with the shortened summer and longer school year, they enjoy learning and show up at school every day, bright and early, ready to learn something new. We would love for you to help us reach our goal to get new literacy games to help with reading comprehension.

My Project

Most of my scholars came into 2nd grade reading well below grade level. In order to retain the information that they are receiving, they have to connect to it. Because doing it the old fashioned way and using worksheets all the time gets to be boring after a while, another way to do this is by using games. I hope that by playing the games selected (Reading Comprehension Games and Reading and Writing Skills Folder Games), it will reinforce the concepts being taught. This will make the concept stick, make the learning that is going on fun and interactive, become a permanent part of their background knowledge, and help each scholar become a grade level reader.
