My Students

My students come from military families and have unique backgrounds. I teach on a military base which means all of my students have either one or both parents in the military. These students have traveled all over and often switch schools. Many of my fifth grade students are faced with a parent being deployed.

My students have amazing backgrounds, but they also carry a lot of stress.

It is extremely important to me to create a safe and stable environment within my classroom. I want my students to know that my class will always be a stable factor in their lives. My students start the school year at a variety of reading levels, and I would love to be able to provide challenging activities for learning.

My Project

My students love sitting around the room to read. Students have the opportunity to pick wherever is most comfortable for them to read and stay focused. My students always go for pillows because they allow them to spread out on the floor comfortably.

These pillows will give my students the flexibility they crave to help them become more focused and better readers.

The pillows are large enough that two students can share them as back support when leaning up against a wall. Studies have shown that giving students the freedom of choice while learning allows for increased knowledge retention. These pillows will allow more flexibility within my classroom for years to come.
