Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a Spanish dual language program. I want to help them continue to develop the passion for reading and math throughout this year. Also, I want to enrich my classroom with technology to provide an interactive reading experience for each child. Why not let kids learn while having fun?

My students are passionate learners!

I already know that they love to read. They love technology. They love to play games of all kinds: board games, card games, interactive computer games, and more. So, why not put the three things together and let them have fun while they learn in our class? Our school is a Leader In Me school and our main mantra is to foster independent leaders today and for tomorrow. We are in the heart of Brooklyn, with a diverse population of students, families, and staff.

My Project

My students need math and reading games and 3 tablets, equipped with protective cases to make learning fun and interactive in the classroom during center time. My first graders will use the games in literacy and math centers. I'd like to have a set of tablets so that we can use interactive reading games such as Raz-Kids learn-to-read program in my classroom. This program is wonderful for readers of all levels to read books in both Spanish and English. Students can have the story read to them, they can read the story themselves, and they can answer comprehension questions about the book. This is an effective intervention activity that readers can accomplish on their own during reading center time. I am also requesting rubber cases for the tablets so they will be protected for years to come.

The materials in this project will make it possible for my students to practice independence, while it will enable me to spend valuable time guiding struggling readers, or re-teaching students who need more time on a math strategy or concept.
