This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I eagerly await the arrival of new books by my favorite authors and devour them when I get them. I want to make sure that my students have that same opportunity.

My students are seventh graders who attend a public middle school in a large, urban school district.

Most of my students come from low income households and don't have access to books outside of school. The students in my classes are eager to read and I want to encourage their growth.

My Project

I am requesting a class library of the newest and most desired young adult novels including the Matched, Hunger Games and Divergent series. I am asking for a collection of some of the newest and most requested young adult novels to build my classroom library. I have students who are dying to read the latest releases from their favorite authors, but can't buy the books themselves. I also have reluctant readers who can only be coaxed into reading by hearing their friends talk about great books. Having a library that includes new, high interest books will ensure that I have a book to meet the needs of every reader and that I am able to start a student on a path to a life-long love of reading.

Reading is a pathway into understanding people and places very different from oneself.

I am convinced that my students are one great book away from a love of reading. Please help me get these great books into the hands of my students.
