Help me give my students a Tilting Sit-Stand Computer Desk Cart, a Portable Bluetooth Voice Amplifier, a Microsoft Surface USB-Adapter, a SuperScience STEM Instant Activities, STEAM books, and a Cricut Explore Air 2 to improve our STEAM presentations.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is a very challenging school year for us!! I teach math, science, and social studies to two amazing groups of students in a Title I school with very talented kids in Miami. In the morning I teach an EFL second grade class, similar to a bilingual program where additionally I teach Spanish. In the afternoon I have a gifted combination of 1st. and 2nd. grade whit creative, inquisitive, and talkative kids. The majority of my students are on free or reduced lunch, they live in a low-income area, 90% of them are ESOL and new to this country, and I would like to make them feel that these are not barriers for them to succeed.
In our class, we build an amazing group that is eager to learn, to discover, that enjoys sharing, and to which I strive to challenge to go above and beyond their limits in a fun and innovative way.
We have a lot of challenging and engaging projects following the 5 STEAM components (Our school is currently a gold designated STEAM school!), hands-on activities, and a lot of movement in a flexible class. I am fortunate for having these challenging and inspiring groups!
My Project
After teaching three years under the five STEAM components and in a Gold designated school, I have realized that an important part of working under a STEAM program not only requires me to build the students' educational background but also it is imperative to promote their motivation, to encourage their participation and creativity, and give them the resources to make their brilliant ideas flow. This year I have two very diverse groups: Gifted (combination 1st. and 2nd) and EFL Second grade. This is an inspiring challenge for me as a teacher.
I want to give my students what they need to keep them motivated while they learn through STEAM challenges.
I want to help them improve their STEAM presentations by incorporating more technology and reinforce STEAM research through an interesting in-class library. It would be amazing if my students had the necessary tools to facilitate their process of creation, drafting, and presentation preparation.
The addition of the Tilting Sit-Stand Computer Desk, the Microsoft Surface USB Adapter, and the Portable Bluetooth Voice Amplifier will enhance my students' presentations. In an effort to enhance the learning of my students, we make experiments and projects to further enhance their science background. The addition of books like “SuperScience STEM Instant Activities”, “STEAM Kids: 50+ STEAM Hands-On Projects”, “Awesome Engineering Activities”, and “180 Days of Science for kids” will be crucial to achieving our academic goals. The Cricut Explore Air 2 will enable me to create a motivating classroom environment and support the students’ science projects. The colored pencils, paper mate gel pens, sticky notes, and the X-Acto electric sharpener will be used on a daily basis for the students to complete their interactive notebook activities.
I hope this project is fully funded because having these additions to my classroom will support my amazing student’s success.
