This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My goal is to have my students become problem solvers.

While my 3rd grade students come from a very low income area and many of them are limited English speakers they want to succeed!

At our school we believe in mind over matter. We can persevere and conquer any challenge. It's my job to give my kids the tools that they will need to accept the challenge that is laid before them.

My Project

That is why I'm asking for geometry manipulatives that will allow students to create shapes and connect them to those that they see everyday. At the beginning of every lesson my children are presented with a problem and a tool. They must come together as a team to determine how they will solve that problem. The things these kids come up with are amazing! We are also in need of extra large manipulatives so that I may model proper use of our tools once the children have had time to develop their own understanding. My students need Geometry manipulatives, extra large magnetic manipulatives, and Common Core daily review. At the very end of each lesson we review previous problems and that is why I'm asking for the Common Core review chart.

My children need to manipulate their math so that they can become confident problem solvers.

These tools will enable my kids to take ownership of their learning and therefor mastering the skill.
