This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 3rd grade students have been working hard this year building their computer science skills. Their creativity and problem solving skills are flourishing. I am so excited to see them explore coding and computer science.

My 3rd grade students live in an area where many of them do not have access to computers and technology at home.

It is often not safe for them to play outside after school and they do not have a lot of access to creation supplies.

We are lucky enough to be able to provide those experiences for our students at school. I want to provide experiences for them to explore and create in the classroom using both low and high tech tools.

My Project

After attending professional development related to MakerSpaces and their importance in education I am ready to create one in the classroom. Students are makers by nature, that tendency needs to be fostered and encouraged so that children do not outgrow those skills.

I want to encourage my students to become inventors and creators by creating a space for my students and by providing them with multiple types of tools for building and creating.

I am asking for "old school" building tools like Kinex and an Erector set, as well all a new tool called LittleBits. The students will be able to combine the tools with craft supplies and tools that we already have to create their own inventions in our MakerSpace.

Your donation to this project will help my students create, explore and communicate...all skills needed as they move up in education.
