Making Music with Kindergartners in School at Home

My Students
Did you love school? My students do! I teach kindergarten to a highly motivated, fun, and diverse group of students at a Title I school with 100% free breakfast and lunch.
My students come to school ready and eager to learn!
They work hard and look forward to learning.
My students are faced with daily challenges and our school is unable to provide all items that are needed to prepare our students to live in an ever-changing world. I make school fun and exciting while providing my students with a safe and nurturing environment where they feel comfortable taking risks and trying out new things. I cannot provide all the additional items that are needed to make our classroom the best learning environment possible, but you can help with that.
My Project
Like most schools, I will be beginning the school year with distance learning with 24 four and five year olds. I currently have some ukuleles in my classroom, but not enough for each student to have their own to use at home. I would love to be able to provide a ukulele for each child to have at home so I can incorporate music into all areas of my teaching.
I was inspired by the IF/Then Collection to combine the STEM emphasis that I have in my classroom with the ability to make and create music with my young learners.
In Ashley Levy’s interview as a vocal producer, song writer, and engineer, she says “I had a whole bunch of music in my head and I wanted to go get it out to the world.” This is what I want my students to be able to do as “everyone has a story to tell.” I look forward to sharing her story along with other strong woman as I incorporate the IF/THEN Collection into my lessons. STEM is everywhere and I hope to inspire my students by sharing a variety of STEM careers that relate to what we are learning. This includes sciences, entertainment, engineering, technology, and more.
