We have been blessed with ukuleles from a previous program that I attended as an educator. The only problem is that they only gave away a class set of 25. As many educators know, we often have classes larger than 25 students. I have had classes as large as 35. Since I know this is a problem, I have come up with solutions in the past about splitting my classes up into smaller groups and working with them in these settings, but this takes away from practice time and really perfecting their art.
Playing music together as a group can be a magical and transformative practice.
When we play music together, we are part of something bigger than ourselves. I want my students to be able to experience this by playing together. With these additional 10 instruments, it will ensure that there will be enough for each class and in some cases I will have a couple back up instruments tuned and ready to go in case there is an issue.
