Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing. They come from extremely diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. I have students from the United States, Mexico, Honduras, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Afghanistan, the Dominican Republic, and more. This diversity can be a challenge, but they have one very important thing in common: They love music.
My students are on fire for music and my Classical Guitar and Orchestra programs bring my students together and give them common goals, pride in themselves, and their school.
These programs are very special to the students at our school. For many, music gives the students something they can excel at and be proud of. Students in these programs must be passing all of their classes to participate. Many students in these programs might not continue in school or even consider college if our school did not have these programs.
My Project
Most of my guitar students do not own their own instruments. Many of them are currently using school-owned instruments, but once school is over, they will have to return their instrument to the school. As we are still in the grips of the pandemic, many families are still struggling. Most, if not all of my students come from families that struggle financially. They struggle to pay rent and in many cases even feed their families. Purchasing a guitar for their child is low on the list of priorities.
I would love to be able to present every one of my students with an instrument they can keep forever.
This project will allow me to do just that. Give students their very own guitar that they get to keep!
