Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are learning from home but many do not have strong internet connection or a dedicated electronic device for doing school work. Many live with multiple siblings who also have school work to do on the one computer, tablet, or even smartphone available. In addition, my students are learning how to become musicians in my music classes, but they don't have access to a piano or electric like they would on campus.
My students are wonderful kids who love learning about music but need some help improving their distance learning circumstances.
The more we can improve their circumstances with items like these keyboards, the more opportunity we give these students for growth as students, musicians, and people.
My Project
My students will be spending the fall semester of 2020 learning from home. As music students at a performing arts high school, they are required to learn about music theory so they can grow as musicians. However, without keyboards at home to test out their knowledge, the topic can feel dry and lifeless. And unfortunately, most of my students can not afford to own a piano or a keyboard at home. Therefore, this distance learning project would allow my students to have keyboards at home so they can learn how to play piano and bring joy into their distance learning through music.
