Making Morning Madness Magnificent!

My students need logic games, problem solving games, art supplies, and legos to turn their boring, morning work into a time of exploring, learning, building, and creating.

My Students

My students are the most, awesome group of kids you could ever be around. They are energetic and eager to learn. I teach students who come from varied backgrounds. Some come from homes with loving and supportive parents. Some live in homes with multiple siblings, who they take care of most of the time. Some travel back and forth from mom's house to dad's house to grandma's house. This inconsistency makes them appreciate the consistency of our classroom and knowing they are coming into a classroom to a teacher who loves them very much.

My Project

I want to implement Morning Choice. To do this successfully, I need items such as puzzles, markers, colored pencils, building materials, and brain games. Morning Choice in my classroom will be divided into six sections. Students will be involved in Artistic Expression, Problem Solving, Game Time, Leadership, Collaboration, and Computer Time. It is my hope that through these six sections my students will improve many important skills. I believe students will become better problem solvers, artists, leaders, and teammates.

Collaboration and teamwork are lifelong skills students need to be successful.

Through Morning Choice, students can improve in these two areas. My fifth-graders are tired and completely over the morning work worksheet that does not provide them with skills that can make them better at problem solving, collaboration, and teamwork. I want to start the day off by challenging them and giving them hands-on activities to stimulate their brain and get our day started off in the right direction!

Art supplies will give my students the opportunity to express themselves artistically. They can use Legos to create structures that show off their creative side. While working on a structure with a partner, students will use Legos to improve their collaboration skills. Board games allow students the opportunity to work together and improve their team building skills. All of these materials will enhance critical thinking skills and problem solving! The best part is my students will have fun while getting better at critical thinking skills, problem solving, collaboration, and teamwork.
