Making Montessori Materials

My Students

Our classroom is an open and inviting environment designed to foster independent student learning. My students are thirsty for new materials to continue their education.

I teach in a public urban multi-age Montessori school with twenty eight first through third grade students.

My students learn though small group and individual lessons, research and inquiry, and by going out in to our community. My students come from all different backgrounds racially and socioeconomically and live in an urban setting.

My students are involved in social justice and environmental conscious movements taking a stand and trying to better the world. Our students work hard with the resources they have to follow their passions and find meaning in their education.

My Project

In the Montessori classroom, teachers create many of the materials that fill the shelves. This includes nomenclature cards, sample problems, directions for experiments, and more.

When shelves are organized with beautiful, hand crafted items students are excited to pull materials out for working and learning.

Many materials are easily damaged or lost when loose, but using these binding options will protect and save them. It is important to make sure that these handmade materials will stay organized and last for years to come.

A binding machine will help our class make books out of our Montessori cards, create student planners and notebooks, and allow students to publish their writing when completed. The hole punches and binder rings will also help us organize and keep track of our Montessori cards.

My students will benefit from this project by being inspired to explore new works in our classroom, being more organized in their daily work, and taking pride in their completed work.
