My Students

I have been in education for over 20 years and am a lifelong learner. I always strive to keep up to date on all of the latest and most innovative teaching and learning strategies. Attending this conference will help me achieve that goal and bring new ideas and practices to my classroom.

The new Common Core Standards present a wonderful challenge to educators.

We need to not only teach children how to compute algorithms, they also need to be able to think "outside the box" and critically analyze mathematical concepts and applications. Attending this conference will provide me with the tools necessary to help my students succeed. I pride myself by being an educator who stays current on all educational trends. I am a 20 year veteran teacher but I continue to learn and bring ideas to my students and colleagues. I am a leader at my school site and will share any and all concepts and strategies learned with my school community.

My Project

This conference is a focused professional learning experience that will help me transform my classroom into an environment where students will learn how to examine, interpret, and think critically about math concepts. I will explore teaching, learning, and assessment related to the mathematical practices in the Common Core State Standards and have opportunities to discuss best practices to support students' learning of mathematical content and processes with a network of colleagues. In addition, I will learn practical strategies that will prepare my students for success in college and beyond. This conference will give me the tools necessary to help my students master math concepts and provide me with additional strategies that will help them succeed in mathematics and beyond.

Most students have a fear of mathematics.

It is my job as an educator to show students how mathematics is an important part of their everyday lives and that learning and applying math concepts can be fun and engaging. My classroom and my students will gain so very much and I hope I have the opportunity to attend this conference no only to enhance my own skills, but to bring resources and ideas to classroom that will help my students succeed.
