My Students

Do you remember sitting in math class and feeling like the teacher is speaking a foreign language?

I am a fourth grade teacher in a school in the South Bronx.

I service students with a wide range of needs. In my ICT class, I have general education, special needs, and English language learners. These students are performing below grade level and experience challenges on a daily basis.

My Project

I strongly believe that all students need to be provided with manipulatives, when learning mathematics. The resources requested will provide my students with visual, and hands on supports, that will help them to better understand the concepts being taught in the lesson. The Flip and Learn Math Helpers will reach all students on every level. The Time, Money, and Place Value Centers will help with real world problem solving. The hands-on manipulatives will provide practice for all the objectives we cover in 4th grade. I am new to the school and unfortunately I only have a couple of baskets of math manipulatives. I am not able to provide manipulative's to all of my students. For some of the topics covered in the math curriculum, I do not have any manipulative's. With the fulfillment of this proposal I will be able to provide every student the opportunity to master the mathematic skills to move on to the fifth grade.

Math is a challenge for many people, its hard to understand the frustration that my students feel during a math lesson.
