My Students

"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." -Confucius For many students math is a difficult concept to grasp. Interactive math games is a great way to help students understand math and deepen their understanding of math.

My school is a Title 1 community school in a urban area that serves families from many backgrounds and cultures.

We have a growing population of Hispanic and African-American families as well as many other nationalities. Over 95% of students qualify for free or reduced lunches. They are amazing students that try each day to do their very best. They come to school eager to learn and I would love to provide them with new and exciting ways to learn math!

My Project

My students need self-checking math games libraries and problem solving kits to build their skills in areas such as counting money, fractions, and place value. Making your way into the world with the math skills needed to support a family as well as save for the future is a tall order in society today. For children that grow up in poverty, math is all too abstract. They do not have experience counting money, measuring, weighing, or comparing items as well as making change or learning how to save or problem solve. The games I am requesting will bring math to life for my students while building a foundation for their future in Math, Science, and Social Studies. This foundation is critical to their academic success.

The United States is no longer the leader in math and science within the global economy.

For years, teachers have spoken out about the need for real world hands-on experiences that will ignite a fire in our children. This is such a request. I want my students to be the future of their community. They deserve the opportunity to experience the same academic rigor that will ensure they are working toward being college and career ready and get to learn it while having fun and being engaged!
