My Students

This year, I am working with a great bunch of 1st graders! In my class, I have 27 of the brightest and best (at least I think so)! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.

My students and I have created a safe, engaging, home-like environment for us to learn and grow together.

We will use this time together for not only them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.

That's where DonorChoose.org comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies, and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.

My Project

I teach at a newer low income charter school in Detroit. Our school is one of the best. We are still growing with our supplies. My students love Math! They cannot wait to do Math centers. Our centers have been limited though because of our need for more materials.

These manipulatives will bring Math to life for my 1st graders!

My students will be able to use base 10 blocks as we go over place value, use counters as an addition and subtraction strategy, use domino's to come up with addition and subtraction problems and play domino war. I will be able to use the magnetic manipulatives during small group instruction, where we think deeper about the concept.

These manipulatives will bring my studens closer to loving Math and being M for a lifetime.
