My Students

My kindergartners come to school ready and eager to learn every day. They come from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in the San Francisco Area. More than half of my students come from low-income households.

All students are provided with free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch every day.

Our school serves students in grades PreK-5 and provides great support from the community and teaching staff. We provide a safe learning environment for students to learn and thrive. We are small, and everyone knows each other. This really helps create a nice culture within the school.

My Project

Incorporating more STEM activities will help my students think outside the regular math and science concepts. We need a STEM Bundle of hands-on activities. These activities will improve the students' problem solving skills as well as help them work independently.

The project based learning that is common in STEM provides students with opportunities for authentic growth and development.

Students will learn to explore solutions for real-world problems, and this will instill a lifelong love of learning math and science.

My students have had opportunities to learn computer science through a weekly computer science program at our school. They have shown great interest in computer science and engineering. I would like to expand and grow their interest by providing more opportunities for them to practice more STEM activities during their center time. The STEM activities included in this project include open-ended building and design and understanding concepts of motion, magnetism, cause & effect, directional language and early programming.

STEM activities will help students develop skills in design, critical thinking and problem solving. They will be mastering 21st-century skills, cooperative learning and perseverance. These activities will also bring more excitement, interest and rigor into our math and science curriculum. Students will engage in questioning, problem solving, collaboration, and hands-on activities while they address real life issues.

As technology expands and the demand for STEM jobs increase, students should be more exposed to STEM education at an early age. These activities are tailored to the students various levels, they are relevant, skilled based, engaging and fun! By implementing STEM education in schools, students of all genders and backgrounds have the opportunity to discover a passion for a subject they might not have otherwise. I know these activities will benefit my students and increase their love for math and science even more!
