Making Math Meaningful With Manipulatives

My students need 15 sets of Anglegs for measuring angles, Multilink cubes, and square color tiles.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Goetz's classroom raised $536

This project is fully funded

I am privileged to teach 5th grade in a low income, culturally diverse school. These children are inquisitive and hard working students. They have a natural curiosity about math, but all too often they think it is too hard. Giving them the opportunity to explore using hands on materials is vital to helping them understand math and increase their confidence as learners of mathematics.

My students need the tactile opportunities to understand math concepts that manipulatives (such as color tiles, Multilink cubes, and Anglegs) can provide.

My students need the experiences of modeling their thinking and learning with manipulatives. They need to build cubes as they work to understand the relationships between length, width, and height, and the numbers of Multilink cubes needed to build the larger cube. The color tiles help them to understand patterns and how they can use numbers to predict the next steps of the pattern. The Anglegs make understanding the concept of angles come alive as the children create angles, measure angles, and explore polygons.

Your donation will affect the learning of many students for years to come. A foundation of mathematical understanding and problem solving skills will be built because of your generosity. Thank you so much.
