Making Math Magic

My students need 10 sets of math manipulatives, such as a Money Mat and Grab & Play Partner Math Games, to strengthen their math skills.

My Students

Math skills take a big leap in first grade. Many concepts are abstract, and are difficult for my students to grasp. Hands-on games and activities will provide a concrete way to reinforce concepts and allow for the practice the children need to master skills.

My students come from very low-economic backgrounds and live in a rural community.

Our school has a 70% free and reduced lunch rate. These eager first graders have a wide range of ability levels, so I am continually looking for ways to reach them where they are.

My Project

Playing games and working with 3-Dimensional models provide good social interaction and build math skills in a stimulating, non-threatening way. Many of these activities will allow students who are tactile-kinesthetic learners to experience math in a fun, stimulating way.

The activities in this project can be used for small and large group instruction.

Some offer a challenge to students who are ready to go beyond basics, and some are geared to helping students who progress at a slower pace. These activities meet my students where they are, and they build in them a sense of success.
