This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are predominantly Hispanic and African American, the majority of which come from low-income households. In the United States, children in extreme poverty are half as likely to graduate from high school and one-tenth as likely to graduate from college as students from the most affluent communities. By fourth grade, they are one and a half years behind higher income peers in reading and math. By eighth grade, they are nearly three years behind. Currently, my students do not have much access to technology.

Despite their limited resources, our students have an unwavering commitment to excellence.

We firmly believe that all of our students will go on to attend a four year college or university, a goal that we work towards everyday.

My Project

I am requesting a Mimio Teach Interactive Whiteboard System to make my daily math intervention lessons more engaging for my students. Everyday, students are working on an ST math program, which uses their love for video games to make math more engaging The program allows the material to become more sticky for students as they inquisitively work to figure out what is actually happening in the math, instead of just being given directions and formulas. They also get to experience the math on a more visual level. This extra layer of thinking allows the students to better understand the math and retain the information longer. This Mimio Teach Interactive Whiteboard system will allow us to take our ST math to another level as we will now have the ability to do more engaging activities as a class, and even go over lessons more efficiently. This is something that I plan on using in my classroom everyday.
