Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Mathematics should involve more than paper and pencil. Making math come alive is difficult when resources and manipulatives are limited. All of my students deserve hands-on learning with materials that help them make the connection between what they are learning and the real world.
I am an elementary school kindergarten teacher in a Title I school in New York.
This is my 7th year as an educator at my school.
I teach approximately 20 kindergarten students in a general education classroom at a low-income school. My classroom is in desperate need of hands on math manipulatives.
My Project
I have requested multiple hands on math activities like tens frame dice, dominoes, magnetic dominoes, addition math puzzles, various math stamps and tens frame activities to make learning math fun! Teaching students that math can be hands on and fun gives them more opportunity to learn in various ways.
My project is so important to me because kindergarten education has become heavily focused on teaching literacy, math and other academic skills.
My goal as a teacher is to make learning fun and enjoyable, to instill a love for learning by making it hands on and connecting it to the real world.
