My Students

The Media Center is the heart of the school and a hub for 21st century learning. Incorporating a MakerBot Academy 3D printing bundle into the media program would be a tremendous boost for our middle school!

We are a Title 1 high poverty schools with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

The school has a mobility rate of 65% - among the highest in Fulton County. Our students need access and exposure to cutting edge technology to learn 21st century skills like 3D printing. All 1,100 students are exposed to STEM education with our school winning the state of Georgia's Best STEM Day Participation from last year's STEM Day events. Super Science Saturday was hosted by The National Organization of Black Chemists & Chemical Engineers (NOBCCE) and in association with the Kingston College Old Boys Association (GA) Inc., and over 210 K-8 students experimented with polymers and visited different stations throughout the day.

My Project

We are striving to create a "Community of Scholars" (the Woodland slogan) and enhance the learning process. As we steadily increase the technology use in the school, the library becomes a focal-point. The library consults and serves the entire population, including all levels of classrooms, teachers, and students. Having a MakerBot Academy 3D printer can not only enhance that learning opportunity but bring something completely new to the library. One of the biggest concerns in the school is increasing the understanding of mathematics by the students. Utilizing our very large selection of math books and tying it to the printer makes the math real and touchable. It is an incredible opportunity to explore how far they can go. A 3D printer will excite the students, spark new ideas in students and teachers, and expand their learning to new levels of possibilities.

My main goal as a teacher-librarian is to expose students to as many resources as possible and provide meaningful, relevant learning experiences.

My library provides spaces for students to create, collaborate, share and display in a supportive environment. The MakerBot Academy 3D printer would be part of building that environment.
