My Students
My students often begin school only days after entering the Unites States. For many, their entry into school is their first experience with American culture, academics, and the English language. Imagine starting school and not being able to understand what is being said and not being able to make yourself understood!
I teach in a Title 1 school with a high immigrant/low income population.
My students are incredibly hard-working and creative. It's a joy to help them achieve their best.
My Project
My students range in ability from grade 1 to grade 6. I always have things for the remedial students to work on, but I rarely have appropriate supplemental work for students who are creative thinkers and are able to think deeply about the mathematics.
Beast Academy books provide students with grade-level mathematics that requires them to think out side of the proverbial box and to apply algebraic reasoning to non-standard problems.
Written in a comic book format, the math is presented in an engaging and thought-provoking format.
I think that this would be a great resource to help push my students' thinking and to challenge all who dare to take the work on. The books promote mathematical reasoning and application in ways that build a foundation for further study and encourage independent problem-solving.
