Making Lifelong Buddies for Students with Special Needs
Help me give my students a parachute, games, foam balls and the other sport equipment they need to participate in engaging and enjoyable activities with their peers, fostering inclusive and meaningful interactions after school.

My Project
The materials I’m requesting will help students with diverse abilities build social and emotional skills while forming lasting friendships. The RHS Best Buddies program connects students in general education with students with disabilities to promote inclusion and understanding. Each month, students participate in planned group activities at RHS that include games, crafts, and opportunities to connect with a variety of peers. The board games (Trouble, CandyLand, Guess Who) will allow students to connect with their partner or in small groups. Bingo will allow the students to have a fun time playing in a large group. Sometimes the fun activities are more active, which is when the students will enjoy a game of Pin Guard using the pins and foams balls, or maybe even a game of dodgeball. On gym days the basketballs will be put to use with games of HORSE or 3-on-3 while the parachute can be used to play many fun games.
These events encourage students to celebrate each other’s unique strengths and abilities.
These resources will be used to create shared experiences that help foster empathy, build confidence, and create a more inclusive school community for everyone.
