Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For most of my students this is their very first school experience. They often come into the classroom feeling insecure and unwilling to talk, but blossom into curious, creative risk-takers, ready to express their inner most thoughts, once a sense of security and value has been nurtured.

My classroom is filled with 23 4-year old English Language Learners who are economically disadvantaged.

100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch which ensures that their physical needs are met. However, we must also ensure that their social-emotional and academic needs are met and provide them with materials and experiences which gives our students a voice to express themselves.

I know that with the right help, we can build a sense of security and value in our students.

My Project

Students will use tablets to document their learning (science, literacy & math which will than be posted throughout in the classroom. This will allow students to feel valued and will help them become more curious, interested and confident in the work they do.

Documenting students work is also a great way for parents to participate in their child's learning and understand the work their child is engaged in.

Students will send the photographs to their parents via our social media app which will allow them to talk about the work they did at school from home.

Documenting students work through photos will also provide me with information about my students learning and progress that may not be evident using standardized testing and formal assessment tools. It also allows me to plan purposeful, engaging, hands-on experiences that not only reflect my students interests but assures the development of many foundational skills.

Not only will the tablets be used for documenting students work and inspiring further creations but they will be used to practice literacy, science and math skills need for academic success.

Your generous donation to our project will improve our Pre-K classroom by building their self-esteem, increasing parental involvement and , increasing student's reading and math skills.
