Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a low-income, high poverty community. For many of my students, this is their first school experience. They are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. They receive free breakfast and lunch at school.

My students are energetic, curious and very smart.

The majority are learning English as a second language. Unfortunately most parents cannot help at home with school activities because they work long hours, and many do not speak English. Currently we are partially hybrid and part virtual, which makes their first school experience even more challenging!

My Project

My young students thrive in a classroom (virtual and hybrid) that is child centered and colorfully decorated. Educational games are a wonderful way to help early learners understand foundational skills while learning in a way that is developmentally appropriate. Phonics games are a great resource for students because they are not only teaching basic skills, but are engaging and fun!

These games will teach students foundational skills, turn taking and responsibility as they learn to use them with peers.

Play based learning is proven to help students gain the academic skills they need in order to have a solid positive start in school in a way that is fun and engaging! The magnetic letter building set and magnetic letter tiles will help my students develop letter formation and sound skills. These resources can be used during a directed whole group and small group lesson or during independent/ partner work time.
