This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Having the right tools helps young learners make sense of what they are learning and apply it to real-life situations. Kindergarteners have the incredible task of learning to think critically, problem solve, count, read, represent, and compare numbers and quantities. Then they need to take that learning and apply it to computation, measurement, and graphing and task completion.
I am requesting your help to bring essential counting and engineering tools to this kindergarten classroom to help them develop a strong solid foundation in Mathematical and scientific thinking.
The 100s chart, ten frames, and counting library will help strengthen their understanding of our base ten systems. The number locks will help them match numerals to quantities, and the snap addition kit will give them a counting tool to practice both one-to-one correspondence, counting on, and adding multiple quantities together.
The engineering tools, including blocks, wooden ramps, and a geometric shape building set, will allow students to collaborate, plan, build, problem-solve, and revise their thinking. This makes critical skills for future interaction in the workforce. Young mathematicians need many opportunities to count and see numbers and quantities represented in various formats. Young engineers need a variety of tools to help them persevere through problems to accomplish essential tasks. Your assistance in bringing these tools to the classroom will significantly help them develop a solid foundation in scientific and mathematical thinking.
