Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 3 and 4 year old preschoolers with mild to severe disabilities including Autism and speech and language delays . My students are full of laughter and giggles! They love to learn through movement and play and come to school every day ready to tackle whatever I present with joy and excitement. The more I can make their learning engaging, the more successful they will be.
Rita Pierson once said, “Every Child deserves a Champion-an adult who understands the power of connection, who will not give up on them and insists that they become the best they can possibly be.” I strive to be a champion for each of my students and more.
The school they attend is in an impoverished neighborhood. There is little beauty to see on their way to school so once they are inside the classroom, the sad outside surroundings fade away and turn into a bright, fun learning oasis. I am the champion for my students because they need a classroom that is inviting and materials that will help learning stick.
My Project
Young students love magnets because they are intriguing, fun and they stick. I know that these magnetic manipulatives will be great to involve my students in their own learning using hands-on activities. Language development is a big part of my students' school day. The Magnetic Letter Builders will be used to stimulate conversation and for letter and name recognition. The Magna-Cars and Trucks and the Shapes Magnetic Tin will help my students learn coordination skills. They will learn to attach and remove the magnetics from the magnetic pieces which will help with the development of their small hand and finger muscles, essential for learning to draw and to write. My students will learn thinking skills including “cause and effect” and other important problem solving skills that are so essential for developing early brain connections using the Magna-Tiles.
My students will learn math skills with the numbers and counting magnetic set.
In addition to counting and number recognition, they will learn concepts such as more and less, on and off, and size and shapes. These magnets are so awesome that my students will also learn how to be creative and they will have fun while learning concepts that will be sure to stick.
