About My Students
My finance class is a very creative group of students. Destini, Aaliyah, Jasmine, Candace, Justyn, Daija, and Savannah are soon to be entrepreneurs at RHS! These students are members of my personal finance class as well as members of our Student Council. They love learning and leading!
We have a virtual classroom economy where they are learning how to budget money. They have enjoyed this process and want to transfer this to a real job and money in the classroom. This year at RHS, we are working to boost morale among students and faculty. We are re-introducing our mascot this year, and the school is raising funds to purchase a mascot costume. Our class is a small, close knit group so we decided that it would be a cool idea to create logo stickers for students and faculty to place on their vehicles. We can also use the silhouette machine to customize products for sports teams and players. After Destini and Jasmine suggested the idea, the other students loved it and began asking how they could make their own stickers instead of ordering them online.
My students will learn a variety of skills through this project that will prepare them for college, career, and life in general. One social-emotional skill they will learn how to work together as a team. They will also experience success, failure, or both. Some of the problems they may encounter may include marketing their product, managing supply and demand, and product quality. They will also learn how to manage money: profit, loss, or ensuring adequate inventory is ordered on time. My students will also need to determine an appropriate price for their product to ensure a profit. There are so many lessons in this project. I hope to allow other students to participate in the process as it grows.
In Their Own Words
Destini - We want a Silhouette Digital Cutting Machine to make school logo decals to sell to learn how to run a business. Jasmine - We want to create school spirit by creating school logos and decals to sell to students and teachers for our classroom economy. Justyn - We are learning how to manage money and want to learn how to run a business in our finance class.
Destini - As President of the Student Council, I will take a leadership role and help make this project successful for our classroom and our school. Jasmine - As a cheerleader, I will be a leader in this project and help build school spirit and unity with students and teachers. Justyn - As a senior, I want to be a positive role model for the lower class men. I want this project to be the start of something big that will grow next year at our school because of our small idea.
This project will help improve school unity between our faculty, parents, and students. We believe that once students start seeing the decals, they will want one too. We plan to start small by creating basketball decals for the players and parents. We hope that the business will sky rocket from this point. We want to encourage the community to support our school through purchasing decals. We have big dreams. This is only the beginning.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
