This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you were faced with learning nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, complete subject, direct objects, and more?! My students are working hard to make their writing focused and clear by using correct grammar and writing conventions.

My students are bright and energetic sixth graders who attend a charter school in Texas.

Many of my students come from lower income families that may not have access to particular school supplies at home. Since many of my students cannot get these resources at home, they are excited to engage in creative writing projects and activities at school.

My Project

Although my students love writing, they are often overwhelmed and frustrated by the nitty-gritty rules of grammar. These new resources will transform the way my students are currently learning the rules of grammar and the conventions of writing. The new supplies will be used to create interactive grammar units in our class. Students will be able to deconstruct sentences using their new colored pencils and highlighters to discover the different parts of speech. With the new colored paper and post-it notes, students will build and create their own sentences to practice using the various rules of grammar. Finally, students will combine all of their grammar knowledge by participating in grammar games and competitions. Every child will be able to fully participate with his/her own white board and dry erase markers in these classroom-wide games. The bookmarks and pencil erasers will be used as incentives to reward student's hard work and dedication to learning grammar.
