Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students from the Bronx, NY are part of a pilot program that creates connections between Maker spaces and Computer science. We give children from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and low-incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive within a Maker space that will stimulate interest in computer science. My energetic Makers enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and make. By having these tools my students will have access to an experience of learning about computer science in a low risk setting that otherwise would not be possible.
My Project
These tools are the foundation for our new maker space in school. Our students want to turn our maker-space into an Electric circuit space. I want to uses these with our Speical-Education students during tutoring in the maker space Using small groupings with Pi-Top, and the littleBits Arduino Coding Kit will develop skills for students. Using the Snap Circuits SNAPINO, will improve student motivation and understanding of concepts in Computer science.
These tools will enhance the tech-rich classroom that I strive to create.
Many of my students come from middle-school without exposure to computing concepts. So they need tools to begin exploring these concepts in our after-school maker workshop. Having small-group hands-on experiences will improve engagement and understanding in our computer science classes. Watching student's faces light up when they experiment, explore and understand the connections between making and computing is truly a joy.
