Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At our school, a large percentage of students K-8 have experienced multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) that affect their learning and engagement in school. Additionally, many of our students are currently experiencing trauma through homelessness and turbulent home lives. This means that students are coming in every day perpetually stuck in fight-or-flight mode, which makes learning extremely difficult and frustrating.
I created this project to help my students cope with their trauma and begin to engage in their learning.
All of the materials requested will go toward important social-emotional learning activities while also weaving in ELA instruction. Social-emotional learning is proven to help students develop important life skills such as emotional regulation, leadership strategies, and coping techniques. I plan to place a large emphasis on this going into the new school year to ensure my students are set up for success in the classroom.
With your donation, my students can continue developing emotional processing, teamwork, and self-regulation skills all while having fun. Resources include social-emotional, team-building, self-confidence, and ELA games as well as prizes to keep students motivated. Students can have fun as they learn important ELA skills as well.
