My Students

I never imagined that I would be teaching during a pandemic. When I found out that school was closed, I was struck with anxiety and my mind flooded with questions like, "How am I going to teach my students? Will I see them again? What is the district's plan to meet the needs of our students?" The answers to these questions became clearer in the weeks to come. We transitioned to an online platform and made every effort possible to get technology in the hands of all the students who needed it.

Since I am a hands-on teacher and our curriculum is based on students working collaboratively in teams, I knew the transition to remote learning was going to be a challenge.

I improvised with the tools I had, but my students still struggled with understanding key concepts.

The upcoming school year is approaching and the future is still unknown. We do not know if we will be back in the classroom, continuing with online learning or a mixture of both. No matter what happens though, I want to be prepared and utilize resources more effectively in my instruction that will benefit all of my students' academic needs.

My Project

Remotely teaching from home during the past nine weeks was a challenge at times. Together, my students and I attempted to charter this unknown territory through Zoom meetings, video conferencing on Microsoft Teams, email, and communicating through the Remind App. However, it was difficult for some students to learn in this format without having that personal connection and engaging lesson in the classroom. Acquiring the materials in this project will decrease these challenges and allow learning to become more positive and engaging for the students and myself.

This project will provide me with an Adjustable Portable Whiteboard, Webcam, Post-It Grid Chart Paper, and headset with microphone so that I can teach my students face-to-face virtually.

This way students can see me visually teaching mathematical concepts during live or recorded videos, which may help with their confusion and frustration during lessons. Students with disabilities and different learning styles would also benefit from learning in this format because I can display anchor charts and math resources on the magnetic whiteboard. Overall, this project will allow me to connect with all of my students on a more personal level.
