Making Circuits and Computer Science

Help me give my students materials for our technology and making units that will support designing circuits as well as extending our Computer Science units.

My Project

I work with a diverse group of students in grades 6-8 who are learning about design thinking through units focusing on video game design, circuits, 3D design, and computer science.

My students learn the focus concept and then mentor their younger partners at our K-5 elementary school.

These materials will help to expand our access to materials to dive deeper into circuits and computer science through making. The conductive material like foil, aluminum tape, fabric tape, wire strippers, alligator clips, and metal clothes pins will be used to create different types of circuits and controllers to attach to both our Makey Makeys and Micro:Bits. The two controllers will give designers the option of having other people test games that they have coded. The Micro:Bit expansion kit will provide designers with more ways to integrate different robotic components into their designs. My desire is to have add on pieces to our circuit and computer science unit so that designers can create beyond the device.
