Making Change To Make a Change

My students need a teaching cash register to help them learn how to properly manage money, a pretend food set and kitchen set, and money games to apply skills in multiple ways.

Don't get ripped off at the store! Students need to know how to manage their money at the store. These are "real life" skills all my K-5 graders need to know in my exceptional education classroom.

Students love to play store and were excited to make their restaurant menus. We stumbled into a problem though. I found that many students don't have a realistic understanding of the value of money. They didn't know how to give the proper amount of change back to each other. They don't know how to buy wisely.

We need a cash register to keep the play money organized and the store more realistic. We need to expand from just having a restaurant to having a grocery store that will create more "real life" experiences, giving my K-5 exceptional education students more opportunity to learn how to spend and budget in the future. We need the play food to buy and sell. We need money games to incorporate into our centers so students can continue to learn how to count, identify, know the value, and make change correctly. We can practice real life problem solving skills that students will use for the rest of their lives that will impact the financial world one day.

These students will one day have to budget their own homes. We have students that leave school without ever learning how to count back change. It is time for "making a change!" Having the materials to give meaning to the lessons taught in school is essential to a good education. Please help us make that change---properly. Thank you so much! It will make a difference!
