This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am replicating the project, Shark Tank!: Entrepreneurship with New-to-Country Students. My students need experiences creating and selling items of interest to their investors. They need to realize how they can become financially-literate children by way of making items and pitching them.
My students come into school ready to learn but do not know how they can give to others.
We are a Title I school meaning that the majority of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The parents work hard to provide for their children but often do not have the time to help them realize want they can accomplish.
My Project
The students will begin the year with a token economy. They will perform various classroom tasks and daily required tasks in order to earn money. Every week a different student will be chosen as the banker to deposit the students' money into their accounts so they can buy their materials and make their goods to later sell the ideas to their potential investors.
By playing Reading for Dollars and other games, my Kindergarten students will learn more about how money is needed to make and pay for goods.
They will develop a plan for what items are needed and will sell to their investors. The investors will be a group of teachers and students at the school. Items they can make include various duct tape creations, stickers, decorated canvas bags, and clay pieces.
The iPad will be used to take pictures of their items, make collages and posters of their creations, and keep track of what has been created. The collages and posters will demonstrate what they could make with an investment.
This relates to our economics standards for consumers and producers.
By creating financially-literate five and six year old children they will grow up to value money and working for what you are given.
