Making Cents of Money Sense

My students need books and games to help them apply math skills and learn more about money in the real world, around the world.

My Students

I have a large class of fourth graders this year and would love to give them more opportunities to apply their math concepts while honing financial literacy skills. We have an extremely diverse set of students that love learning with games and manipulatives. I want to take their learning beyond computers and websites and into the real world to help them become curious 21st century learners! They will also have opportunities to learn about the economy in other countries and different cultures within the country so that they can become more tolerant and aware of the challenges people across the country face.

My Project

Students will become more aware of how our global economy works. They will learn about how children participate in the work force across the globe and become more tolerant of those who have different financial circumstances. They will also become more financially literate as they learn more about the value of money so that they can make better informed decisions in the future. This will help them become contributing members in the workforce when they are older. Being able to see how this applies to the real world will make it more meaningful for them. Most of all, they will have fun while learning and collaborating with others!
