Here at Speedway Academies we are "soaring to success" everyday through literacy. The students in my second grade class love reading books but really love the process of making their own books!
Speedway Academies is a K-8 public school in a large urban city.
I have 20 wonderful, bright and very active second graders that love to learn. The students in my class come eager everyday to see what new book or story they will be reading and what new people and places they will learn about. We love literacy at Speedway Academies! We have student book publishing parties about every six weeks to celebrate student writing!
My Project
In order to have the students create their individual non-fiction chapter books they need blank writing books and pencils. Imagine how excited they will be writing in their very own books! When students create their own books through researching topics they learn about the world. Students can realize that they are truly talented authors when they create their own books. It is vital that the students in my class realize that they are smart and have the power to be authors and illustrators.
By having blank books and pencils donated to my class at Speedway Academies my students can create a library of personal books that they created, learn about the world around them and realize that they are gifted readers, writers and illustrators!
