it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My lively 6th grade students this year are barrels of fun!
My sixth grade students love to read, they are enthusiastic about math, they enjoy discussing new ideas with each other, and most importantly: (even in middle school) they are excited about learning!
Our small K-8 school has one class per grade, with one additional special education class in the 6th grade. We are a tight-knit bunch, since most of my students have been together since kindergarten.
Although our school is located in a small corner of the Bronx, and remote learning has been quite a challenge, we are trying our best to bring our students back to school safely, while reinforcing personal connections and supporting their emotional well-being!
My Project
Students will be able to use these electric piano keyboards to learn to play melodies, compose music, and experiment with sounds! Due to the pandemic, it has been such a long time since many of these students have been in the school building -- it will be wonderful to hear them discover the joy there is in listening to and creating music as a group.
I know many of my students are eager to have real music instruments in their hands again, which was not possible during remote learning.
So many of them have expressed an interest in playing the piano, however, since we only have one in our school, that has been quite a challenge. With enough keyboards for students to play during class -- and headphones to allow them to focus on their own music -- it will be very exciting to watch them develop their skills, and bloom into the talented musicians I know they can be!
