Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school library is a special place. While books are and will always be important in the library, this wonderful room has proven to be an ideal place to offer just a little more. Over the the past several years, a tradition has formed. On Friday afternoons, students with special needs visit the library to listen to a story. These read-alouds are followed with simple art projects that extend the story and introduce elements of art. It's a lot of fun, often a little messy, and is a great way to finish off each week. Unfortunately, our supplies are running very low, jeopardizing this lovely tradition.

The art and office supplies requested will allow me to continue offering art activities to students with special needs.

These activities offer students who often are not otherwise enrolled in art classes an additional opportunity to explore art while developing fine motor skills. Friday afternoons have become one of my favorite times of the week. It's been an absolute pleasure to provide this time and these activities to students.

One major obstacle is that the supplies needed for these projects are often not available through the school. Having this project funded will help sustain this artistic tradition.
