This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I wish to make my 5th grader's last year in elementary a fun year! In order to do this, we need many materials. Most of these items like markers and cardstock are for art projects we will make in class as we celebrate the different holidays and most importantly learn about themselves and their identity. Our students come from low socioeconomic families that are having many challenges at the moment. These challenges bring on traumatic experiences and events that lead to the necessity of many social emotional lessons, which many include art. Art education is crucial because it enhances creativity and fostering self-expression and social emotional development.

These materials that I am requesting will facilitate and give me the ability to nourish my students self esteem and encourage expression!.

Many of my students come to me with a stomach ache due to not eating or having available snacks at home, so we need snacks. In addition, the parachute that I am asking for will help us build a sense of community in our classroom and also foster physical movement in my students. Club sports and sports programs are opportunities that many of them cannot simply be afford. I am hoping this can help me engage my class in fun PE activities that they will also remember as they promote to middle school.
