My Project

Crafts are important in makerspaces because they encourage creativity, experimentation, and hands-on learning. While technology and digital tools play a significant role in makerspaces, traditional crafts such as woodworking, sewing, and papercraft can offer a different avenue for expression and skill development. These activities help students gain a deeper understanding of materials, design principles, and the iterative process of creating something tangible. Additionally, crafts can provide a more accessible entry point into making for students who may not gravitate towards technology-focused projects. Overall, incorporating crafts into makerspaces offers a well-rounded approach to fostering creativity and innovation among students.

Makerspaces in middle school libraries are important because they provide students with hands-on, creative opportunities to learn and explore various concepts in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM).

By offering access to tools such as 3D printers, coding kits, robotics, and other materials, makerspaces allow students to engage in project-based learning, problem-solving, and collaboration. These environments promote critical thinking, innovation, and practical skills that can prepare students for future careers in STEM fields. Additionally, makerspaces can help instill a love for learning and experimentation, fostering a sense of curiosity and discovery among middle schoolers.
