Making a Good Calculation

My students need a class set of calculators and dominoes to reinforce math skills.

My Students

I have the privilege of working with a group of incredible kindergarten students. I feel honored that I get to be their first experience with school, and it is my goal to create a classroom that fosters a love of learning.

My students come from a variety of different backgrounds.

Some of my students are English Language Learners, others are from military families. I have students in foster care and others that come from single-parent homes. I work hard to build a positive classroom environment which fosters a love of learning, no matter what background the child is coming from. This project will support that learning environment.

My Project

It may seem strange to request a set of calculators for kindergarten students, but introducing students to calculators from an early age provides important foundational skills for the students to be successful in math. With the calculators, I will be teaching my students how to skip count as well as using them for number identification and basic calculations.

This project will provide students with two different sets of dominoes.

The first set is a traditional domino set that students will use to practice addition of numbers by adding each side of the domino. The second set has ten frames on each side of the domino and students can play dominoes with this set to reinforce number concepts.
