Making a Better Classroom Environment for First Grade

Help me give my students an environment conducive to learning with a dry erase easel and book bins!

My Project

After I finished my first year of teaching first grade, I felt exhausted but so proud of all that my students accomplished with the few resources I had. These resources will not only help me to be a better, more organized teacher for my scholars, but also to help them stay organized and better focused on the learning at hand. A flipside dry erase easel will support my small group targeted learning so that I can support all students and meet them where their learning is. Connect store book bins will help scholars stay organized and focused on what books interest them, as opposed to keeping their books and reading materials in plastic bags in their desks. These book bins will help to give them more freedom and accountability of their own independent learning time. I have also added magnetic display shelves for whole class learning. Having the ability to display the books that we are focusing on as a class will not only bring scholar attention to the work we are doing, keeping them on task, but it will also encourage more acceptance and diversity.

Focusing on reading diverse classroom books together will support scholars of color or historically underrepresented cultures as they will see themselves reflected in the classroom materials and on display.

Finally, I am asking for a gift card for Teachers Pay Teachers to support my development as a teacher and to support my scholars' learning. Teachers Pay Teachers has proven to be a useful tool in creating a welcoming and warm classroom environment through decor, but also as a means of supporting the curriculum that scholars are learning.
